CALB Develops 1.2MWh High-Safety Marine Battery System for Saudi Aramco, Powering the World’s Largest Oil Company’s Hybrid Vessel for Trial Voyage
2025-08-12 | Eric

Recently, CALB successfully launched the 1.2MWh high-safety marine battery system it designed and developed for Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil company, for its trial voyage. Following its achievement as the first domestic company to independently develop and design a marine battery system certified by DNV, CALB has now become the first in China to successfully deliver a marine battery system certified by ABS.
Leveraging its extensive experience and technological strengths in the field of marine power batteries, CALB completed the full-cycle delivery — from solution design and production to FAT — within just 60 days.
The Karan8, Saudi Aramco’s first hybrid offshore support vessel (OSV) equipped with CALB’s advanced battery system, is scheduled for official deployment in the Persian Gulf in the second quarter of 2025 to provide low-carbon port support services for Saudi Aramco. Its operating area will cover key oil and gas hub ports in eastern Saudi Arabia, including Jubail and Dammam, as well as nearby offshore oil and gas fields. The vessel’s specific services will include oil exploration support, platform supply transport, crew transfer, and anchorage assistance. Featuring a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system, it is expected to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 30%.
