China's First! CATL Powers Pure Electric Passenger Ship "Yujian 77" for Maritime Operation

On July 25, China's first pure electric passenger ship, "Yujian 77," co-developed with CATL, officially set sail in Xiamen Bay. Equipped with CATL's marine battery system, the vessel not only delivers zero-emission, low-noise, and high-quality maritime tourism experiences but also validates the feasibility of pure electric technology in coastal navigation. This breakthrough achievement marks a significant acceleration in the green transformation of the maritime tourism industry.

The CATL marine battery system onboard "Yujian 77" innovatively adopts CTP (cell-to-pack) technology and an integrated CCS (high-voltage charging system), achieving an energy density of over 140Wh/kg for the battery pack. With a total capacity of 3,918 kWh, the system enables a pure electric range of 100 km—sufficient to support four consecutive night cruise routes in Xiamen Bay. For safety, the battery pack utilizes NP (no thermal propagation) technology, ensuring cell-level thermal runaway containment, and meets IP68 protection standards. It can withstand 1,296 hours of salt spray testing, guaranteeing stable operation in complex maritime conditions.

After deployment, "Yujian 77" is projected to reduce annual fuel consumption by nearly 250 tons and cut CO₂ emissions by over 400 tons—equivalent to the carbon sequestration capacity of planting more than 20,000 trees.

As China's first CCS-classified pure electric passenger ship, CATL's marine battery system onboard "Yujian 77" has also received certifications from global leading classification societies, including Bureau Veritas (BV), the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and DNV. Moving forward, CATL will continue advancing technological innovation to develop safer, longer-lasting, and higher-energy-density marine battery systems, accelerating waterborne transportation toward a zero-carbon future.
