601MWh! CATL’s Tener Sets a New Record in Eastern Europe, Boosting Bulgaria’s Energy Storage Capacity by 15%
2026-05-28 | Eric

Recently, a 601MWh large-scale energy storage project jointly developed by Eastern Europe’s leading company Solarpro Holding and CATL was successfully connected to the grid and commissioned in Bulgaria. Nicknamed the “Super Green Energy Block” by locals, the project is expected to increase Bulgaria’s total installed energy storage capacity by approximately 15% upon operation. It will significantly raise the share of wind and solar power in the country’s energy mix while strongly supporting the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
Highlight 1: Compact Size, Massive Capacity
The project is fully equipped with CATL’s self-developed Tener energy storage system, the industry’s first 6MWh-class zero-degradation product. By integrating 565Ah LFP battery cells, the system achieves an areal energy density exceeding 407 kWh/m². Compared with conventional solutions delivering the same 600MWh capacity, the system can reduce land usage by approximately 20%, significantly lowering EPC costs and easing land-use pressure.
Highlight 2: Safer and Longer Lasting
CATL’s Tener energy storage system achieves zero capacity degradation during the first year of operation, increasing the project’s internal rate of return (IRR) by 1.13%. The system is equipped with multi-level fire protection and high-grade insulation design, offering outstanding corrosion resistance and seismic performance for long-term stable operation even in extreme environments. In addition, its auxiliary power consumption is controlled within 2.5%, surpassing industry standards and effectively reducing overall operational costs for the power station.
Highlight 3: Eastern Europe’s Largest and a New Energy Storage Benchmark
This project is the largest operational energy storage power station in Eastern Europe. It provides critical infrastructure for Bulgaria to integrate large-scale wind and solar energy, significantly enhancing the flexibility and stability of the local power grid.
Building on this successful collaboration, Solarpro Holding and CATL have reached a long-term cooperation agreement, with plans to further expand the scale of energy storage projects over the next two years. As a benchmark project in Eastern Europe’s energy storage sector, it has laid a solid foundation for CATL’s brand influence and market expansion in Europe’s high-end energy storage market.
