Gotion Launches GNASCENT Sodium-Ion Battery with Energy Density of 261Wh/kg

On May 17, 2026, Gotion officially unveiled its sodium-ion battery brand, "GNASCENT Battery", at the company's 15th Global Technology Conference. The launch introduced three major product versions, with core parameters reaching industry-leading levels, achieving the breakthrough of "mass production upon release".

The high-energy version boasts an energy density of 261Wh/kg, a 60% increase over traditional sodium batteries, significantly higher than the industry average. It meets the demands of weight-sensitive applications such as light electric vehicles and drones, expanding the application boundaries of sodium-ion batteries.

The power version supports ultra-low temperature discharge down to -50°C, addressing winter operation challenges for electric vehicles and outdoor equipment in cold regions. It has an energy density of 162Wh/kg, making it suitable for commercial vehicle power applications.

The energy storage version features a single-cell capacity of 180Ah and a cycle life exceeding 20,000 cycles. It retains 88% capacity even in extreme -40°C environments and has passed stringent safety tests, including 8mm steel needle puncture and 400°C high-temperature exposure without catching fire. This highlights the inherent safety advantages of sodium-ion batteries, making it suitable for grid peak shaving, commercial and industrial storage, as well as residential energy storage.

Gotion's "GNASCENT Battery" follows a "mass production upon release" strategy. GW-level sodium battery production lines have already been established at the Tangshan and Hefei bases, marking the leap from laboratory development to large-scale manufacturing.

According to reports, the newly launched batteries are intended to serve multiple scenarios, including energy storage, low-altitude economy, and light mobility. The company's long-term goal is to achieve large-scale deployment in grid-side and commercial/industrial storage applications, while exploring potential in niche markets such as two-wheelers and start-stop power systems.
